PGPD Investigates Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Suitland

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in Suitland. The victim is 21-year-old Edmond Smoot of Marlboro Pike in District Heights.

On March 15, 2016, at about 6:30 pm, patrol officers were called to the intersection of Branch Avenue at Silver Hill Road for a collision involving a pedestrian. When they arrived, the officers found the victim suffering from critical injuries. He was taken to a hospital where he died on March 28, 2016.

The preliminary investigation reveals an SUV was heading northbound on Branch Avenue when it struck Smoot as he was crossing the street. The victim was in a crosswalk at the time, however was crossing against the pedestrian crossing signal. The driver of the SUV remained on the scene. She was not hurt.
