Victim from 2006 Shooting in Oxon Hill Dies

A man shot back in 2006 has died of his injuries. He’s 29-year-old Maurice Benton of Stevens Road in Southeast, DC. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.

On July 29, 2006, at about 10:45 pm, patrol officers were called to the 1300 block of Southview Drive in Oxon Hill for the report of a shooting. Officers discovered Benton and two additional victims inside of an apartment suffering from gunshot wounds. They were all taken to the hospital that night.

Detectives were notified that on December 24, 2016, Benton died at a hospital. An autopsy determined the cause of death was complications from injuries sustained during that shooting. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Detectives are working to identify a suspect(s) and motive in this case.
