2006 Child Abuse Victim Dies in 2016; Case Ruled a Homicide in 2017

Elanis Milfort of Bowie was a baby when she suffered a head injury in a child abuse case in 2006. Ten years later, at the age of 10, the young girl passed away.  A year after her death, the autopsy now reveals the manner was homicide.

On June 8th, 2006, detectives were notified when Milfort, then six-months-old, was originally treated for a head trauma. Detectives arrested her father, Lionel Milfort, and charged him with child abuse.  He was released from prison in June of 2014.
In March of 2016, the victim underwent surgery to treat a spinal condition that was a result of the head trauma in 2006. She suffered complications and passed away three days after surgery.
At the end of June, 2017, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia ruled the death a homicide. All follow up investigation will be handled by our Homicide Cold Case unit.   The Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office will determine whether any additional charges will be filed in this case.
